Zimm Alexander was born just after midnight at 00:18, June 18th, 2002 in Stillwater, MN. He arrived in a fury and mother was spectacular.
Nanc went into labor around 6:30 pm while I was on the St. Croix fishing. She called me at about 7:30 pm and after catching some great crappies I finally made it home around 8:30. Nanc had already called her Dula, Melissa Summers, and she had arrived by the time I got home. I called Nanc's parents to come stay with Duncan and we headed to hospital around 9:30 pm.
There was some dismay after checking in, Nanc was only dialated to 4/5 and the baby had not dropped much. Nanc had been dialated to 4 for about 3 weeks. With incredilbe coaching from Melissa, Nanc worked and moved the baby into position. For some relief Nanc got into the tub and had a IV put it so she could get intrathecal moprhine. The anesthetist was a little late in arriving and while we waited, Nanc moved right along. She was now dialated to 8 and paper thin. Zimm was coming!
Nanc was calm and cool while we waited for the morphine to kick in. Under the direction of her Midwife, Melissa Frisvold, Nanc pushed a few times and Zimm was here. Zimm weighs 9.0 pounds, a little larger than Duncan and measured 20 inches in length. A big guy. Apgar was 8,9.
Mother and son. A much easier experience for Nanc.
Duncan comes to Hospital. Surprise Zimm! You've got a brother!
Grandma Joyce Leslie holds Zimm for the first time.
